What is entity SEO?

Also called: entity optimization

Definition

Entity SEO is the practice of helping search engines and AI models recognize a brand, person or product as a distinct entity with consistent, well-defined attributes. The aim is that when the engine thinks about your category, it knows exactly who you are, what you do and how you relate to others.

Explained

Search engines organize knowledge as entities and relationships, such as Google's Knowledge Graph. Language models also form associations between a brand name and a category. Inconsistent names, descriptions or categories across the web blur those associations.

Practical entity work includes using one consistent name and one-line description everywhere, Organization schema with sameAs links to your official profiles, accurate listings on Wikidata, Crunchbase, LinkedIn and industry directories, and pages that state plainly which category you belong to.

Example

A company called "Beacon" shares its name with dozens of others. By consistently describing itself as "Beacon, the customer onboarding software" across its site, profiles and reviews, it helps AI engines link the name to the right category.
